Yet I Will Rejoice: A Study in Habakkuk
Review the sermon from Sunday. What was the big idea? Was there a specific insight or illustration that stood out to you?
Read Habakkuk 2:2-5. What was the question that prompted God’s response in these verses? (See Hk 1:17 for help) How would you sum up God’s answer in these verses?
Read verses 2-3 again. For what reasons does God delay bringing justice to our world? Why is that both good news for us and challenging to us?
Look up 2 Peter 3:9 and Romans 3:21-26. How do these verses shed light on God’s answer in verses 2-3? What can we take away from this when we endure injustice and it seems like God is slow to act?
Read verses 4-5 again. Habakkuk lays out two responses to God’s delay in bringing justice. What are they? What is the result of each one? In what ways do people today need to hear this message just as much as people in Habakkuk’s time?
Have you ever seen how God’s delay can lead to presumption and pride on our spiritual lives? What was the circumstance? What lessons can you learn?
What does it look like practically to watch and wait for God’s justice in the midst of suffering, injustice, confusion, or frustration in your life? What helps us to do this?
Pray for perseverance until Jesus’ return…and thank God that, by Christ’s righteousness, you will escape judgment.
