Come Together: Unity in the Church
Review the sermon from Sunday. What was the big idea? What stood out to you?
Read 1 Corinthians 1:18-25. Collin summed up Paul’s point with the title “Logic of the Cross.” What did Collin mean by that? Do you think that is a good title? Why or why not?
Try to imagine what it would be like to be a first century Roman and to hear that the God of the Christians died on a cross. How would that reaction be different from people’s reaction to the cross today? What should we learn from that?
Read 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. In these verses, Paul applies the logic of the cross to the community. How does he do it? What are the components of “Gospel character” that we see in these verses?
How can we build the kind of community that Paul is describing on both a macro level (corporate worship) and on a micro level (small groups and households)?
Read 1 Corinthians 2:1-5. In these verses, Paul applies the logic of the cross to the church’s proclamation. What lesson can we take away for how churches are to preach the Gospel?
Most will not be called to public proclamation of the Gospel from a pulpit. So how are we called to proclaim the Gospel? What opportunities do you specifically have to proclaim it?
Take some time to pray for the logic of the cross to take its full effect in Southside’s community and proclamation.
